Lily James to play young Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia! sequel

Lily is set to play the role of a "young" Donna Sheridan, though the part was originally played by Meryl Streep.

Although the main story of the sequel is still a secret, it has been reported that "Here We Go Again!" will both be a sequel and a prequel.

Scenes will flash back and forth in time to show how Donna's relationships with her past boyfriends were forged earlier in her life. Ol Parker, the writer of "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" and its sequel, wrote and will direct "Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again". ABBA's Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus will be part of the production; they will be executive producers and music consultants for the film.

It is thought that the film will feature ABBA songs that were not included in the original film but will bring back classics that made it into the first. Stars from the original movie, including Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Christine Baranski and Colin Firth will be returning for the sequel.

Obviously, playing the same role as Meryl Streep is incredibly daunting, but the actress that's been cast seems like a flawless fit.

James, who got her start in the London theatre scene, has toplined recent movies like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and 2015's Cinderella, along with recurring in the later seasons of Downton Abbey. The sequel will be released on July 20, 2018, approximately ten years after the original film, which grossed over $600 million at the global box office, ran in theaters.
