Kenya: Wayne Rooney Starts for Everton Against Gor Mahia

Wayne Rooney opened the scoring with an incredible 30-yard effort on 34 minutes in front of a raucous crowd at the National Stadium in Tanzania before Jacques Tuyisenge leveled the scores with a well taken header for K'Ogalo.

Everton forward Yannick Bolasie is eager to learn from the Premier League club's new "world class" signing Wayne Rooney and is relishing the extra competition in the side after the club's recent transfer spree, the 28-year-old has said.

English top flight football team Everton FC has arrived in Tanzania for a two-day tour as part of the club's new sponsorship deal with African betting firm SportPesa.

"Now, to lead the boys and look after the young boys, to guide them in some ways, it is a nice thing and a real pleasure".

"It's such a huge honour to captain such a great club".

The 28-year-old has been out of action since early December having suffered a serious knee ligament injury which will also rule him out of the opening stages of the upcoming Premier League season.

Wayne Rooney's return to Everton got off to the flawless start on Friday as he scored a vintage goal that bore a striking resemblence to the famous curling effort he scored against Arsenal as a 16-year-old which launched him to fame.

According to the Daily Mail, worldwide midfielder Ross Barkley missed out on this trip with his future at the club still unclear in the wake of a contractual stand-off.

It's always interesting when you come to these places to meet the people from here and try and learn a bit about the culture here and it was good.
