Ezekiel Elliott may be suspended when Cowboys play Broncos

Unlike most suspension rumors, I don't believe this one by ESPN's Adam Schefter really doesn't have any legs.

The Dallas Cowboys are already slated to be without defensive ends Randy Gregory and David Irving in Week 1 against the New York Giants for their suspensions, but the team could also be without star running back Ezekiel Elliott.

WFAA.com reported that Cowboys sources said the team doesn't know if Elliott will be suspended, adding that the investigation has been "dragged out".

A report late last week seems to indicate growing opinion that Elliott could face some type of short suspension over the upcoming weeks once the National Football League ends its own investigation.

The Cowboys will definitely lose production with Elliott potentially missing a few games, but they won't lose a lot.

Columbus, Ohio prosecutors opted not to bring charges against the running back related to that matter.

The Cowboys' front office states they haven't heard anything about a possible suspension. Of course, the fact that Elliott wasn't charged with anything does complicate matters.

High-ranking #Cowboys source says that Ezekiel Elliott has messages saved on his phone proving his ex-girlfriend is trying to set him up. Nothing has been confirmed or denied, but the NFL sent its findings to Elliott, who in turn is preparing a response to the league's findings. The team will have Elliott in for training camp, but the team do not know should they will have him for the start of the 2017 National Football League regular season.

Speaking of Darren McFadden, he is going to be the starter for the Cowboys if Elliott indeed misses some time. He was caught on camera pulling down the top of a woman at a St. Patricks Day block party on Greenville Ave.in March. He was also involved in two vehicle accidents - one fender bender in which he was the driver and another in which he was the passenger - the latter of which cause him to sit out the beginning of Cowboys OTAs in May.
