Xbox One X won't turn a profit for Microsoft

"I look at [PS4] Pro as more of a competitor to [Xbox One] S than I do to Xbox One X. This is a true 4K console", Spencer told Eurogamer.

In an ideal world, every major Christmas console release should be Xbox One X enhanced.

But while many may see it as a competitor to Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro, that was announced previous year, Microsoft disagrees.

Moving from its usual Monday morning slot to Sunday, Microsoft kicked off E3 2017 with the Xbox One X, the console formerly known as Project Scorpio.

Microsoft has high hopes for the device, which is the second 4K-supporting console to enter the video game market following Sony's PS4 Pro past year. Spencer pointed out the 40% faster GPU as well as the Xbox One X's bigger memory (12GB, as opposed to the PS4 Pro's 8GB) as some of the main advantages Microsoft's console has, but 4K gaming seems to be the biggest differentiator. Microsoft has announced that all existing Xbox One accessories will be compatible with the new Xbox One X. That's £100 more than Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro which was released past year.

Phil Spencer, who is the director of the Xbox division, started out the event by setting the name for the new console developed by the company.

Microsoft's latest console, the Xbox One X, has been making the headlines for the past couple of days.

The added services will surely attract new buyers to both the console and more importantly to the Game Pass as well.

Sure, you'll be able to play original Xbox games on Xbox One soon, but don't expect the library available to be as extensive as Xbox 360's. Microsoft unveiled an augmented reality headset called Hololens past year, so it seems that Xbox might be working to integrate that technology into their platform. Out of these 42, 22 were exclusives for the Xbox One, or to the Xbox One and Windows 10. You don't see that in the deals we've done with Assassin's [Creed Origins] and Shadow [of War].
