Perth Uber driver charged with 'stopping car', indecently assaulting woman

'It doesn't seem feasible that this would be the first time, ' LAPD Captain William Hayes told KTLA.

The driver, Alaric Spence, 46, of North Hollywood, picked up a 24-year-old woman from an event in downtown Los Angeles around 3 a.m. Friday and was supposed to drop her off in Hollywood, police said.

The woman fell asleep during the ride and instead of taking her to her destination, he drove to a motel.

"There is a video showing him carrying her into the hotel", Hayes said. He says Spence rented a room and carried the unconscious woman inside before sexually assaulting her. "To do something that brazen...we would believe it's something he's done before".

Spence was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping to commit sexual assault.

His vehicle is described as 2015 four-door silver Nissan Sentra with the California license plate number 7XUX293.

According to police, the woman was on FaceTime with a friend when she noticed Ricci was driving the wrong way down a dead-end street.

He has five previous felony convictions related to possession and sale of narcotics in Los Angeles and Ventura counties and as far north as Sacramento.

Two drivers on ridesharing service Uber have been accused of two, separate sexual assault incidents in Los Angeles over the last week.

Police said a woman in her 20s, who News4Jax is not naming because of the nature of the allegations, hailed a ride from Uber on June 14 and was assigned Ricci as her driver.

Hayes said the company had been "extremely cooperative" with investigators.

Anyone with information about additional victims is urged to call Los Angeles CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
