Coast Guard crews search for missing boater off Salisbury Beach

Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector North Carolina were notified around 1:40 p.m. that the man was seen falling off a boogie board and did not come back up.

An 18-year-old man is missing after attempting to help a swimmer in distress in the ocean.

Coast Guard rescuers do not believe either person was wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

The boogie board was found washed up on shore, near off road vehicle ramp 49.

The Hatteras Island Rescue Squad, Dare MedFlight, and U.S. Coast Guard have been searching for the individual using a variety of methods, including jet skis, boats, and helicopters.

According to the National Park Service, the teenager was from Thailand.

The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a man who went missing after a boat capsized Tuesday off Salisbury Beach.

When the Coast Guard's 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew arrived on scene to locate the second person, they reported seeing him face down and unconscious in the surf zone. Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Joshua Canup said the boy's body was found in the same area where he disappeared. "We ask anyone with information related to the search to call the Sector North Carolina Command Center at 1-910-362-4015".
