Kumar Vishwas slams Kejriwal on MCD election defeat

We could not convince the people about the good work done by the Delhi government.

Contrary to what some top AAP leaders had alleged, Mann said there was no use in finding fault with the electronic voting machines (EVMs).

Cabinet minister Gopal Rai, who was recently appointed organisation building head for the three poll-bound states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, was appointed the Delhi unit convenor late Thursday evening following a Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting at party supremo Arvind Kejriwal's official residence.

"This is not a (Narendra) Modi wave, this is an EVM wave".

Earlier, AAP's Punjab in-charge Sanjay Singh had tendered his resignation, so did Delhi-in charge Dilip Pandey.

After being rejected by Delhi voters in this month's municipal elections, the Aam Aadmi Party is battling to stay united and stay relevant.

Speaking exclusively to India TV, the poet-politician, who has often taken to Twitter to launch veiled attacks purportedly aimed at his own party, today said that the AAP's loss in the recent Punjab Assembly elections was because the party had failed to live up to the faith that the people had put in it.

He blamed the AAP loss in Punjab election on the party's wrong decision.

The AAP is also staring at the spectre of a mid-term poll in Delhi as the Election Commission is expected to deliver its verdict soon on a petition seeking disqualification of 21 AAP MLAs over the "office of profit" issue. The Delhi CM in fact extended that hostility even to the extent of asking the Centre for "proof" that surgical strikes took place on terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir last September.

On Wednesday, Alka Lamba had also offered to resign as MLA and from all party posts.

"We didn't sit at the Jantar Mantar to fight against the Congress, Modi, the BJP or EVMs", Vishwas said.

Kejriwal accepted his resignation. The AAP, despite a high-voltage and high-decibel campaign in the run-up to the MCD polls, managed to grab only 46 out of the 270 seats.

Vishwas said there was a trust deficit with the party that led to the disaster in Punjab polls.

Names of Shikha Rai and Kamaljeet Sehrawat for South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), Preeti Aggarwal and Anju Jain for North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Neena Bhagat for the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) are being discussed by the BJP leadership.
