South Korean newspaper, the Kyunghyang Shinmun, has claimed Kim Jong-nam was planning to defect at the time of his death.

Some analysts believe China was keeping the family under its wing in case it needed a friendly figure to serve as replacement leader in the event of upheaval in the North. The fourth man trailed Jong Nam and was nearby when he was attacked. "Therefore, he was detested all the more by the North's leader", said Kim Sung-Min, a high-profile defector who operates an anti-Pyongyang propaganda radio station in Seoul.

Four other suspects have been remanded so far in connection with the murder - a Vietnamese woman Doan Thi Huong, Indonesian woman Siti Aishah, her boyfriend, and Ri Jong Chol, a North Korean male.

Police said the cause of death was still not known and that they were waiting for pathology and toxicology tests after conducting a post-mortem.

New details released by the police on the freaky death of exiled North Korean Kim Jong Nam appear to point to a cleverly planned and deftly executed assassination by professionals who knew what they were doing.

Jeong declined to provide further details, citing the continuing probe in Malaysia.

The Sepang police headquarters continued to draw the attention of both local and foreign media to obtain the latest updates over the death of Kim Jong-nam, the estranged elder half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, on Monday.

It is understood that Malaysian ambassador to Pyongyang, Mohamed Nizan Mohamad, was summoned by the North Korean government last week with a similar demand for the release of the body.

Malaysian police are looking for four North Korean men aged between 33 and 57 suspected of involvement in Monday's apparent assassination of Kim Jong-nam, deputy national police chief Noor Rashid Ibrahim told a press conference on Sunday.

He also said there was a fifth North Korean man whom authorities wanted to question.

On Friday, police arrested North Korean national Ri Jong Chol, 47 at a condominium at Kuchai Lama, here.

Unconfirmed reports say that Kim Jong Un always feared Kim Jong Nam and even attempted to eliminate him in 2012.

The paper's anonymous source also suggested he had also made unsuccessful bids to defect to South Korea, the U.S. and Europe in 2012.

CCTV suggests a cross-dressing killer may have held Jong-nam from behind before he was sprayed with either ricin or deadly puffer fish toxins, according to the Mirror.

Others have been sent packing despite posing no apparent challenge. He has spent years living in exile as an unambitious but outspoken critic of his younger brother's rule. Now serving as ambassador to the Czech Republic, he was once tipped as the North's next leader.
