Teacher impregnated by student gets 10 years in jail

Alexandria Vera, 24, pleaded guilty previous year to aggravated sexual assault of a child and was hoping to avoid prison and just get probation.

A Houston area teacher has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after she was impregnated by a 13-year-old student, according to the Houston Chronicle. During her investigation, Vera told an officer that she and the student kissed in the vehicle during their first meeting, and the next day when the boy's parents weren't at home, they reportedly had sex.

Alexandria Vera, 24, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a middle school student. According to the report, Vera said the parents were accepting of their relationship and she was invited to family gatherings. However, after Child Protective Services came to the school to question Vera and the student about their relationship, Vera reportedly got an abortion.

Sentencing her to a decade behind bars, State District Judge Michael McSpadden said: "We want our teachers to educate our children". She told authorities that she and her young lover had engaged in sexual activity almost daily - nearly 150 times in the five months they were together.

Prosecutors say Vera and the teen had sex nearly every day for nine months.

But she did allow police to search her phone, which turned up "many messages" between the teacher and her student.

It was also claimed she was introduced to the teen's family as his girlfriend and they had let their son stay over at her house. Her sentence was capped at 30 years after she pleaded guilty. Vera told police that she initially resisted the boy's request; but when he did not show up to class one day, she sent him an Instagram message, which led to them having sex.

"She's someone who has a big heart", Lawson said.

When Vera became pregnant, "they were very supportive and excited about the baby", court documents said. The boy has been placed in foster care.
