Why Oregon's Kasich delegates went to Trump

"It would have been the easiest thing in the world to turn tail and run", said Cruz as part of the crowd rose to their feet in applause. "Now, I'm not saying anything", said Trump.

The Republican party's United States presidential candidate Donald Trump has rounded on former rival Ted Cruz, reviving an unsubstantiated accusation that the senator's father met with the man who killed former president John F Kennedy.

"We're are focusing on that, obviously all in the context of winning in November, and getting Donald Trump elected", Ken Cuccinelli said. "We either stand for shared principles or were not worth anything", Cruz said.

"In my speech last night I didn't say a single negative thing about Donald Trump".

"I'll say there shouldn't have been boos, but I also will say that Ted shouldn't have gone out there and said at the end something that was clearly meant to spark controversy", he added.

In May, Trump had said to Fox News, "You know, his father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald's being - you know, shot.Right prior to his [Kennedy's] being shot, and nobody even brings it up". Ted Cruz didn't do at the Republican National Convention Wednesday, instead of what Gov. Mike Pence did. Ben Carson during convention week, Nevada Republicans agreed on one thing, regardless of their original candidate preference: they would unify behind Trump.

The Oswald controversy first emerged earlier this year when Trump pointed to a sensationalised National Enquirer story suggesting that Cruz's father may have been involved with Oswald.

He said that he had "nothing to do with it" and added that the National Enquirer is "in some ways well respected" and deserved a Pulitzer Prize for exposing former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards' love affair. Trump said at a morning press conference in Cleveland.

Trump had tweeted a picture of an angry-looking Heidi Cruz appearing next to a model-perfect photo of his own wife.

"If people say this has hurt Ted Cruz's career, that's a long ways from seeing it going down", King said. "That's why they booed because they want him to get their quicker than what he is", Vander Plaats added, saying it "remains to be seen" if it hurts Cruz standing in the party going forward.

"This is another garbage story in a tabloid full of garbage", Communications Director Alice Stewart told McClatchy.

"Donald Trump alleges that my dad was involved in the assassinating JFK", Cruz said.

"I think Heidi Cruz is a great person".

As for Trump's claim that the unidentified man in the photo with Oswald "looks like" Rafael Cruz, experts told us not to put much stock in that kind of assessment. "I was never in New Orleans at that time".
