Ted Cruz Says He Still Won't Endorse Trump After Backlash

He has attracted millions of voters by pledging to toughen USA immigration laws and renegotiate global trade agreements.

Pence told Fox News that a Trump administration would tell USA allies "the time has come for them and for their citizens to begin to carry the financial costs of these global obligations". When he announced that he would be speaking at the convention earlier this month, Cruz said, "There was no discussion of any endorsement", when he met with Trump about speaking.

I think that what he did do tonight was beyond what I expected, and I thought it was very gracious, personally.

Trump himself declared Cruz's move "no big deal!" in a late-night Twitter post Wednesday. Trump, Manafort said, "invited all the presidential candidates who ran to come to this convention and speak". Manafort told NBC News that Cruz "made a mistake" and exercised "very bad judgment". Convention delegates formally nominated Trump on Tuesday.

"What I said last night is what I believe is the only path to saving this country, and it is not simply blindly chanting a name and yelling down dissenters", Cruz said, adding that his "soul cries" at where the country is at.

Afterwards, some Texas Republican delegates could be seen crying as they processed the emotional morning.

US Senator Ted Cruz on Thursday staunchly defended his decision not to endorse Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, in a damaging rift at the party's convention ahead of the November 8 election. One delegate challenged Cruz on breaking his pledge to support the GOP nominee: "I supported you, and I expected you to keep your word and say that your word is your bond", the woman said to cheers from the audience.

Representative Blake Farenthold said he is eager for specifics from Trump. He gave a controversial speech, which only mentioned Trump once. He told ABC that "people make mistakes". Ted Cruz, R-Tex., addresses the delegates during the third day session of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Wednesday, July 20, 2016.

"I think we're going to win in North Carolina because of her", Eric Trump said, looking to his wife.

However, on Thursday morning, Cruz backed his address from the night before, saying that his non-endorsement was a matter of principle.

It wasn't so much about Donald Trump, Cruz argued, but about the need to defend the United States of America.

U.S. Senetor Ted Cruz said he will not vote for Hillary Clinton - but that doesn't mean he's endorsing Trump.

Many of Trump's primary rivals have not only capitulated to him but chose to come to the convention this week, like governors Chris Christie and Scott Walker, and shill for a man they once claimed was unfit for the office.

Throughout the campaign, Cruz called Trump "a bully" and accused him of running a smear campaign.
