Leslie Jones returns to Twitter

Leslie Jones returns to Twitter

The Twitter ban came in the middle of the RNC, which Yiannopoulos said worked out great for his personal brand.

A voice of the "Alt-Right" movement, Yiannopoulos is seen as a provocateur on a variety of issues and has legions of followers - as many as 388,000. Freedom of speech doesn't include the freedom to abuse or incite racial hatred. As a result, Jones was inundated with racist tweets that proved so demeaning that Jones made a decision to take a break from the social media app altogether.

Meanwhile, after receiving negative tweets, and being a target of online trolls that send hateful memes and racist remarks, "Ghostbusters" actress Jones announced she will leave Twitter. "All this because I did a movie".

Did you know that Twitter is bankrolled by Saudi Arabia and controlled by extreme free speech-hating hypocrites? "Everyone gets hate mail".

Jones, who is black, fielded a barrage of Twitter harassment before she gave up, all because, as she put it, "I did a movie".

Jones shared some of the racist tweets targeted toward her, many of which compared her to an ape. "I'm numb. Actually numb", she also said in one of her tweets.

Digital culture researcher Caroline Sinders says she hopes Twitter will start giving specific reasons for banning certain users.

Having been suspended several times by the network for flouting its rules, he was permanently barred for what Twitter called "repeated violations" of its rules prohibiting participating in, or inciting, targeted abuse.

Cara Zwibel, director of the fundamental freedoms program at the CCLA, says the issue facing social media is trying to balance people's right to express themselves with the right to be free from harassment and discrimination.

Paul Joseph Watson rips apart Twitter for banning Milo Yiannopoulos and the left-wing media for how they reported the story in his latest video.

Among other things, he said:"With the cowardly suspension of my account, Twitter has confirmed itself as a safe space for Muslim terrorists and Black Lives Matter extremists, but a no-go zone for conservatives".

But Twitter user John Nolte responded, "Basically, the corporate fascists at @Twitter silenced someone for criticizing and mocking a rich and powerful movie star".

More than 950,000 people "disliked" the official trailer on YouTube, making it the worst-reviewed trailer in YouTube history and indicating an organized campaign against it, according to Hollywood observers.

A quick perusal of Twitter will show an endless array of trolls violating the terms and conditions of the service, yet seemingly given a free pass.

Maybe some tech wizard out there has another solution, something short of aggressive word and image filters, that could prevent people from saying all sorts of things or sharing all sorts of visuals in discussions that aren't meant to function as harassment and intimidation.

Even so, I think Twitter can handle it. YouTube, which sees 300 hours of new video every minute, manages to catch copyright infringement before the video even goes live.

There is an argument that Milo is different from these keyboard warriors as he has a large following and is influential to his fan base.

Mr Deane-McKenna, who has carried out research in freedom of speech but now works in cyber warfare, highlights the importance of free speech on social media sites. He added that he was not responsible for other people's tweets. But it carried on - multiplying until I was being bombarded by hundreds of Tweets a day: some threatening, most just utterly deranged.
