Hundreds of people gathered Monday morning in downtown Syracuse in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, which is calling for an end to police brutality and racism in the criminal justice system.

The boycott exposed rifts within the national coalition of liberal groups operating with Black Lives Matter movement, which has faced increasing criticism amid deadly attacks on police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Game does ultimately say he's "down for "Black Lives Matter" and those protesting peacefully against injustices, but wants people to make sure that those killed of all races and walks of life are acknowledged. "Pay attention when these things happen in our society.' And from a law enforcement perspective, I say of course they matter". If you can produce evidence that there's a direct connection between Black Lives Matter and a police shooting, and there might be.

Hawk Newsome, of New York City, said he made a decision to march outside the RNC because he believes both major parties have failed to make black lives a priority in their platforms. "And what we said yesterday was that there was more questions than answers".

In an appearance on CBS' Face the Nation Sunday, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told black parents that they should teach their children to be respectful to police and worry more about violence in the black community.

The Portland Police Chief Michael Sauschuck was fast to comment the protests. "Everybody wants to go home at night so I think some trust needs to be built".

Organizers say everyone is welcome to come and show unity against violence.

Carter, a sophomore at George Mason University, added: "Kat and I both have seen a lot of people posting on social media and instead of everyone coming together peacefully, we've seen people choosing sides: pro black or pro cop".

"It's their First Amendment right to protest, to express their views", he said.
