Clinton Campaign Slams Trump For Painting A 'Dark Picture' Of America

The questionable touching occurred when the Republican nominee for November's presidential election greeted his daughter on stage.

Correspondent Lisa Desjardins begins our coverage.

Donald Trump's oldest daughter tells the Republican National Convention that her father is a fighter. And then, came the mic test.

In the second half of the interview, Colbert asked if the Democrats are underestimating Trump, and Warren said yes: "I think everyone is underestimating Donald Trump". They're so honest. They're such honorable people.

"I will be your champion", Trump said to rapturous applause. It's great to be here. "I know he believes his conviction is so strong, but sometimes you have to understand that it is bigger than you". And the police are doing an incredible job.

The four-day eventincluded a failed bid by anti-Trump delegates for a rule change allowing them to vote for alternative candidates, and a refusal by his main primary rival, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, to endorse him. Vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution. But that goal seemed guaranteed to go unfulfilled following Cruz's stubborn defiance on the convention stage.

But inside the halls, the convention itself has been anything but uneventful, with public spasms of disunity - and the embarrassing revelation that a prime-time speech by Trump's wife Melania had plagiarized remarks made by First Lady Michelle Obama. "I think it will help some of the healing". He lost. He's a poor loser.

"So to every parent who dreams for their child, and every child who dreams for their future, I say these words to you tonight: I'm with you, and I will fight for you, and I will win for you".

MAN: I don't blame him either way.

"I think she's awesome". And so I can understand why there's still some hesitation, but, again, it's a decision of conscience.

There was also a speech from PayPal cofounder Peter Thiel, who became the first delegate to reference his sexuality in an address at a Republican convention. "I have seen him fight for his employees", she said.

LISA DESJARDINS: During the primaries, Trump had referred to Cruz as lyin' Ted and attacked his family members.

Delegation Chairwoman state Sen. "It continues a longstanding VFW tradition to provide an opportunity for those seeking the nation's highest office to address the nation's largest and oldest major war veterans' organization, which is especially important during a time of war and instability overseas, as well as internal challenges at home", he said. "This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton: death, destruction, terrorism and weakness", he said.

Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort argued that the show of party divisions may actually rally Republicans behind Trump.

Social media sentiment toward Trump based on tweets that mentioned his name was slightly more negative than positive shortly after his speech. Senator Cruz, the strict constitutionalist, chose not to accept the strict terms of the pledge that he signed.

LISA DESJARDINS: All of that demonstrates why unity will be at the top of the agenda on this fourth and final night of the Republican Convention, where the theme will be make America one again. When GOP leaders blocked that effort, the anti-Trump delegates staged a noisy protest on the floor. Though some seats in the Quicken Loans Arena were still empty, it was far fuller than it had been earlier this week.

Instead, Donald Trump emerges as Donald Trump, with the party of Lincoln looking more like the party of clown auto. "There are still a lot of people at the convention and within the party who are not sure where he's going to stand".
