Microsoft Windows Phone Market Share Dips Below 1%: Goodbye Surface Phone?

This new Windows Store redesign is the first visual revision Microsoft's digital download store has received since the launch of the Windows 10.

It could be worse, though, as Gartner estimates that Canadian phone maker BlackBerry claimed just 0.2 percent of sales in Q1, down from 0.4 percent in 2015.

Gartner pegs Android's global market share at 84.1 percent, up from 7.8.8 percent, this time, previous year, growth that the analyst firm is crediting to the affordable devices out of China and the early success of the Samsung Galaxy S7. It could also be Microsoft just retroactively justifying its decision not to upgrade some of its Lumia phones to Windows 10 Mobile.

As mentioned earlier, the device carries the Microsoft name on it which seems a bit odd as the company has rights to Nokia name till 2024.

Manufacturers planning to run Windows 10 Mobile on a phone can do so now on a maximum screen size of 9 inches.

Users of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL will finally get the Forced HDR mode, which means that they will be able to click photos any time they want.

So Windows 10 mobile continues, which is expected since Windows 10 is a OneCore OS, but it also looks like Microsoft has built their final Lumia branded handset as well.

Taking into account Gartner's research, the company itself sold 2.3 million of the 2.4 million total Window Phone devices shipped in the most recent quarter.

Microsoft knows this is the case but now that appears to be their plan and they seem to be focused on completing Windows 10 while Windows mobile hardware lies in a state of hibernation.

All of this is speculation.

If you've got a complaint about Windows 10 or suggestions for how to make it better, you can now tell Microsoft using the Feedback Hub app.
