Benni McCarthy: Mourinho flawless for Manchester United

Embattled Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal suffered a fresh blow on Monday when the Premier League club's share price dipped to its lowest level in over three years.

Louis van Gaal also reminded his interviewers of Sir Alex Ferguson's three years without a trophy at the start of his United reign, whilst insinuating that things will improve under his control.

United may have earned a creditable 1-1 draw at Chelsea last weekend, but they are now six points off the Champions League qualification places with 13 games to go in the Barclays Premier League season.

"I have to say that I am deeply grateful for the reception from the Chelsea fans and their applause when I was substituted".

Speculation linking Mourinho with the position at Old Trafford has intensified over recent weeks, particularly since the confirmation of Pep Guardiola's impending arrival at Manchester City. For sure, I will be back soon.

"At this moment I don't have a job, and I don't know where football will take me, because in football you never know". But as a family, our home will be in London.

"When he was at Real Madrid, he beat him a couple of times".

The Dutchman said on Sunday he thought reports of negotiations between United and Mourinho were an invention of the media. "I don't have to answer this question and I shall not repeat myself every week".

"The boss has said that I'm getting back to my form now from what I had before my injury and I need to keep kicking on", he told the club's official website.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are targeting the Frenchman as they prepare to bring in defensive reinforcements, with Bilbao's Aymeric Laporte and Everton's John Stones also on their shortlist.

"A young player must be somebody who plays in the World Cup for the first time".
